School property taxes need to be capped

Posted

Editor,

We all got our tax assessment from the Thurston County Assessor Office this month. We paid 36.54% for local school taxes and another 23.32% for state school taxes. That is a total of 59.86% in school taxes. That's over half of our property taxes. This may be why the levies don't pass. The county increases your property value to get the money they need. Our system needs to change. It's time for a property tax cap. Write to your legislators for a change.
