The train trestle on Minnesota Street in Rainier reopened on Thursday, Aug. 17, after a Pepsi delivery truck hit the trestle on the morning of Thursday, Aug. 10.

The trestle, located just before the curve that turns onto Rainier Road, closed on Friday, Aug. 11 while the tracks were fixed. As a result of the closure, motorists were forced to reroute to 133rd Avenue Southeast.

The truck failed to safely travel beneath the trestle, and the roof of the trailer hit the trestle and moved the tracks approximately 5 inches, City of Rainier Public Works Director Ron Gibson said.

“The rails moved 5 inches, not the whole trestle. That’s still a lot, but they put them back in line,” Gibson said.

The low clearance sign on the trestle notes a low clearance of 12 feet, 4 inches. No one was injured, and no other motorists were involved in the incident.
