The Tenino boys basketball team led late but couldn’t close things out down the stretch on the road, losing to 2B Toutle Lake 54-49.
The Beavers (1-3) led 49-48 with 90 seconds left in the fourth quarter, but missed a layup that would have given them a bit of insurance. Toutle Lake star Zach Swanson scored on the other end to give the hosts a one-point lead of their own, and the Ducks sealed the win at the free-throw line.
Tenino junior Noah Schow had a game-high 30 points on 12-of-24 shooting, and also had nine rebounds. Austin Gonia added a 12-point, 12-rebound double-double, but the rest of the Tenino lineup pitched in just seven points. Ashton Moore came down with six boards and also had a pair of steals.
Swanson put in 26 points of his own for the Ducks.
Tenino will play at Black Hills on Friday.
