Family Storytime

Join the Yelm Timberland Library from 10:30 to 11 a.m. every Thursday for family storytime. The event includes music, movement, books and activities for the whole family. Children must be accompanied by a participating adult. The library is at 210 Prairie Park St. NE in Yelm.

Saturday, Nov. 11

Veterans Day Celebration and Concert

To celebrate Veterans Day, the City of Yelm’s Parks and Recreation department is hosting a Veterans Day celebration and concert at the Yelm City Park. The event will begin at noon on Saturday, Nov. 11 in front of the Yelm Community Center building.

Yelm football vs. Marysville-Pilchuck

Yelm football, 10-0, will host Marysville-Pilchuck, 7-3, in the opening round of the 3A state playoffs at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 11. Yelm qualified for the round of 16 by defeating Kent-Meridian in the district playoffs, while Marysville-Pilchuck qualified after defeating Gig Harbor, 28-7. The two teams met in the 2021 3A quarterfinals, where Marysville-Pilchuck defeated Yelm 39-21. The Tornados have won 24 consecutive matchups since.

Bigelow House Museum Tour

The Bigelow House Museum offers regular escorted tours on the first and second Sunday of the month at 1 p.m., 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. Entrance fees are $5 per adult, $4 for seniors and students, and $2 for children. The museum is located at 918 Glass Ave. NE in Olympia.

Learners Without Limits Bowling Fundraiser

Learners Without Limits will host a bowling fundraiser from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 16 at Yelm Prairie Lanes. The fundraiser will support Learners Without Limits’ mission to provide students within Yelm Community Schools with the tools and basic needs to empower them to be successful. Saturday, Nov. 18

City of Yelm Charity “Turkey Bowl”

Set for 9 a.m. on Nov. 18 at Longmire Park, the City of Yelm will host a charity Turkey Bowl. Those interested in bringing a team to the charity sporting event can register at https://lf.yelmwa.gov/Forms/FlagFootballApp to reserve their spot.

Yelm High School Choir’s Sixth Annual Mattress Drive

Yelm High School’s choir club will host its sixth annual mattress drive from 9:45 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 18 at Yelm High School. Purchases of mattresses will support the choir club with travel expenses and more.

Nisqually Valley Moose Lodge Holiday Bazaar

Nisqually Valley Moose Lodge will host its annual holiday bazaar from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 18 and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 19. The Nisqually Valley Moose Lodge is located at 1117 W. Yelm Ave.

Roy Grange Holiday Bazaar

The Roy Grange is set to host a holiday bazaar beginning at 8:45 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 19. Located at Water Street West in Roy, the event invites community members out to “find that unique holiday gift for someone special.” The grange kitchen will also be open for customers to enjoy snacks and beverages while they shop. The event will conclude at 3:45 p.m.

Thursday, Nov. 23

Anytime Fitness “Turkey Trot”

Before families sit around the table to eat their Thanksgiving meals, Anytime Fitness is offering a holiday-morning activity for all families and community members to enjoy: its annual Turkey Trot event. Check-ins for the Turkey Trot begin at 8 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 23, with the actual 5-kilometer race starting at 9 p.m. Participants will meet at the Yelm Community Center before walking across the street to the Yelm-Rainier-Tenino Trail to begin the run. There will be a raffle for participants at 8:30 a.m.

Christmas Parade

The annual Christmas Parade, hosted by Yelm Chamber of Commerce, is set to begin at 9 a.m. on Dec. 2. Line up for the parade begins at 8 a.m. at Yelm Cinemas. Those interested can register at https://www.facebook.com/yelmchristmasinthepark/ or contact the chamber at 360-458-6608.

Holiday Tree Lighting

The annual City of Roy Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony will take place from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Roy Community Center, 122 Third St. E. The tree outside Roy City Hall will be lit around 7 p.m. There will be treats, refreshments and the opportunity to get a photo with Santa Claus. Morning with Mrs. Claus

Yelm Parks and Recreation department will host Mrs. Claus on the morning of Dec. 16 from 8:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. as she leads a craft, story time and cookie decorating. A breakfast buffet will also be on hand. Pre-registration is required, and children need adult supervision at the event. Registration can happen at https://lf.yelmwa.gov/Forms/MrsClaus.

Winter Solstice Walk

The City of Yelm Parks and Recreation Department is hosting the annual Winter Solstice Walk from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 21 at Cochrane Memorial Park, 10236 Mill Road SE. The department invites participants to walk throughout the candlelit Cochrane Park to celebrate the shortest day of the year. At the end of the walk, participants can enjoy a cup of warm apple cider.

Coach Strand’s Final Home Wrestling Dual

Yelm’s wrestling program invites the community to celebrate legendary head wrestling coach Gaylord Strand as he coaches his final home dual as the program’s head coach. This season marks Strand’s 50th year as the Tornados' head coach. The event is set to begin at 4:45 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 23, as Yelm will wrestle Bethel Bison. At the conclusion of the duel, community members can join former wrestlers, coaches and current athletes in celebrating Strand’s career with speakers, presents and food.
