Massachusetts recently took a compassionate step forward by banning the use of animals in circuses, setting a precedent that Washington should follow. As a child, my parents did not take me to circuses because they knew of the animal cruelty involved. As a teen I watched undercover videos of the cruel processes of training the animals, which I found to be disturbing and upsetting. I believe most Washingtonians agree that animal cruelty has no place in this great state.
For-profit entertainment events masquerade as caring for their animals while subjecting them to suffering for profit. Circus animals endure cruel training practices and are confined to inadequate living conditions. This treatment is not only inhumane but also outdated. Society is becoming increasingly aware of the need for ethical treatment of animals, and it's time for Washington to reflect these values in its laws.
By banning circus animals, Washington can demonstrate its commitment to animal welfare and inspire other states to do the same. Let's take a stand against this cruelty and ensure a kinder future for all animals.
