Thurston County to End Its Plastic Foam Recycling Program

Posted

The Thurston County Waste and Recovery Center (WARC) in Lacey will suspend its plastic foam recycling program, effective Feb. 28.

“Due to a recent law prohibiting certain types of plastic foam products, the processing facility the WARC uses for this type of recycling will end operations at the end of February,” stated a news release from the county.

Thurston County Solid Waste is actively exploring new options for plastic foam recycling, but until a new vendor is found, residents and businesses must dispose of Styrofoam and other plastic foam products in the garbage.

“Thurston County remains committed to continuing plastic foam recycling and will notify residents if a new recycling option becomes available,” stated the release.
