Thurston County Certifies November General Election Results

Thurston County certified the results of the general election on Nov. 29.

All of the candidates who emerged as front runners during the first count of ballots on Nov. 8 held onto their leads following subsequent ballot counts. 

Derek Sanders was elected Thurston County sheriff as he ousted incumbent John Snaza.

Final election results show Sanders garnered 65,249 votes, or 55.32%, compared to Snaza’s 52,093 votes, or 44.17%. The race featured 607 write-in votes.

Incumbent Tye Menser retained his seat as the Thurston County commissioner for District Three after he garnered 69,524 votes, or around 56%, against his challenger Vivian Kay Eason, who garnered 53,594 votes, or about 44%. There were 130 write-in votes in the race.

Thurston County Auditor Mary Hall won against challenger Sal Militello after she secured 76,590 votes, or almost 62%, to Militello’s 39,260 votes, or about 38%.

Linda Enlow, the incumbent clerk for Thurston County, will retain her position. Enlow received  58,193 votes, or about 55, against challenger Tonya Moore, who brought in 43,462 votes, or about 41% of the vote. The race included 3,611 write-in votes.



In the race for Thurston County assessor, incumbent Steven Drew won with 68,444 votes, or around 56% against challenger Dave Kolar, who garnered 52,856 votes, or 43%. There were 330 write-in votes.

Jeff Gadman, the current Thurston County treasurer, secured another term with 74,211 votes, or about 63%, to challenger Jeff Curry’s 42,690 votes or about 36%. There were 465 write-in votes.

Coroner Gary Warnock and Prosecuting Attorney Jon Tunheim ran for re-election unopposed.

The certified election results show voters in Thurston County supported a measure to increase the Board of Commissioners from three to five people.

Out of 120,998 votes, about 55% of ballots, or 66,779 people, supported the measure, while about 45%, or 54,219 people, opposed the measure.

The port’s measure to expand from three to five commissioners was also approved by voters. Certified election results show 61,201 votes, or 51% cast ballots in favor, while 58,765, or 49% opposed it.
