Police Officer Assaulted During Domestic Violence Call

Yelm police officers responded to a report of domestic violence on Saturday, June 3, after a man and his adult son had a physical dispute.

According to the police report, officers were told the father pushed and grabbed his son during a disagreement about bills.

Officers were also told by dispatch the man “may react badly” toward law enforcement officers due to past encounters. When officers attempted to detain the man, he became tense and physical with them.

According to the police report, the suspect resisted being handcuffed and pulled his arm away to avoid it. He reportedly pushed an officer off of him and on to the side of a vehicle, which nearly knocked the officer to the ground.

The officer was able to take control of the suspect on the ground by using the “figure four” technique.

The suspect was then placed in handcuffs and arrested.
