Driver crashes into pedestrian in Rainier, flees on foot in Grand Mound

A man crashed his truck into a ditch on Binghamton Street in Rainier after midnight, Tuesday, July 16. The Thurston County Sheriff’s Office received reports about the truck’s crash and later received a call that the truck had run someone over near Golphnee Loop Southeast and fled the scene. The victim’s injuries were not life threatening, according to TCSO.

A deputy attempted to stop the suspect, but the man failed to yield. The truck, which was described as having purple lights under it, later crashed into bushes in the Grand Mound area, and the suspect left the scene on foot. A K-9 track was attempted, but the driver was not located. The suspect, described by TCSO as a male in his early 30s or late 20s, was referred for charges.

In an unrelated incident, a male in his 30s was located deceased in the Rainier area around 8 a.m. Tuesday, TCSO confirmed. While the investigation is still ongoing, TCSO noted that there does not appear to be any indication of foul play at this time.

Theft shoplifting at Walmart leads to citation

Yelm Police Department responded to reports of shoplifting at Walmart on Wednesday, July 10 around 6:16 p.m. after loss prevention claimed a man in his 30s stole Red Bull from the store.

According to reports, Yelm Police officers spotted the man on railroad tracks near Old McKenna Road. He complied with police officers, admitting he stole the beverage and threw it over a guard rail.

The man was issued a criminal citation for third-degree theft.
