A person was arrested for providing narcotics laced with fentanyl that caused a death in the Nisqually Valley area on Wednesday, Oct. 4. The subject was charged with controlled substance homicide and booked into the Thurston County Jail after an investigation by the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office and the Thurston County Narcotics Task Force (TNT).

According to a press release, on June 5, 2023, deputies were dispatched to a report of CPR in progress. Upon arrival, deputies continued CPR and provided naloxone — Narcan, a drug to counter the effects of fentanyl and heroin-type narcotics. Medical personnel arrived and took over life-saving measures, but the person died.

During the investigation, law enforcement learned a known person stopped by the house and provided narcotics to consume, according to the release. It was after this use of narcotics that two of the users passed out, and when one awoke later, they discovered their significant other was non-responsive and called 911.

The investigation determined the narcotics provided were laced with fentanyl, and the cause of death was determined to be fentanyl and methamphetamine toxicity. On Oct. 4, detectives with TNT located the person who provided the narcotics and arrested them.
