Legends Haunted Ranch not for the easily scared

Legends Ranch pulls out all the stops every October, bringing an intense haunted house experience to the community. This year, a maze was added to the event, as well as two other attractions to disorient and scare visitors.

The Legends Haunted Ranch and Torture Chamber at Legends Ranch will take place from 7:30 to midnight every Friday and Saturday through Oct. 31 at 32421 Tisch Road S. in Roy. Tickets are $45.

“We start three months before the Halloween season with planning,” Legends Ranch owner Jerome Young said.

Young said the haunted ranch started small to scare family and friends but has since grown bigger.

“I was always one to hop on a horse and be the headless horseman,” Young said. “A couple of years ago, we started this one, and I think we started with like 30 people total [visitors] for one night.”

Now, 50-100 people enter the haunted house each night for the month-long event. The enjoyment of people getting scared is something Young says keeps driving the event.

“We have a lot of return customers who said this is the wildest thing they have ever been to,” Young said. “They’ll go and get more people and come back.”

The event has such high-production value a control room is needed to manage the haunted ranch, and 30 actors are used during the production.

“One of our experiences is a backstage pass where people can come into the control room and watch the staging and all the stuff the customers go through,” Young said. “Sometimes parents come out and bring their kids out and don’t want to bring them through the haunted ranch, and I do not want to cause your kids’ nightmares, so the backstage pass works well.”

Young said they’ve had people who travel all over the nation to visit haunted houses, and this one, they say, is the scariest one.

“We have gotten overwhelming support from the community, and they’ve been behind this crazy endeavor,” Young said. “We’re striving to make it scarier and worse.”
