YHS resumes operations after threat from former student forces lockdown

Yelm High School was under lockdown in the afternoon hours of May 24 due to a “threat made by a former student.”

In an email sent by Yelm Community Schools Superintendent Chris Woods, Friday, May 24, a former student off campus threatened a current YHS student on campus.

The Yelm Police Department was on scene at YHS responding to the threats. Woods said the suspect was not on campus.

In a separate email circulating on Facebook, Woods said YPD has secured the campus, and YHS has lifted the lockdown, but as a precautionary measure multiple agencies will remain on campus.

“Thank you for your patience and support as our priority is to ensure the safety of our students and staff,” Woods wrote.

A follow up message will be shared by the school district once law enforcement concludes its investigation. Campus has returned to normal operations.
