As Yelm Community Schools attempts to pass its educational programs and operations (EP&O) levy in February after two consecutive failures, the school district is giving voters the opportunity to ask questions and learn more about the levy by hosting nine forums.
Nine of the 10 Yelm schools, excluding the Yelm Extension School, will serve as locations for the forums, which are open to the public and will also be accessible over Zoom. The following forums, in partnership with the district’s parent organizations, are scheduled:
Thursday, Dec. 5, at 6 p.m. at Yelm High School Performing Arts Center
Tuesday, Dec. 10, at 4 p.m. at Lackamas Elementary gymnasium
Wednesday, Dec. 11, at 6:30 p.m. at Ridgeline Middle School commons
Thursday, Dec. 12, at 5 p.m. at Southworth Elementary cafeteria
Tuesday, Dec. 17, at 6 p.m. at Prairie Elementary gymnasium
Monday, Jan. 13 at 6:30 p.m. at McKenna Elementary gymnasium
Thursday, Jan. 16 at 5:30 p.m. at Mill Pond Elementary gymnasium
Tuesday, Jan. 21 at 5:30 p.m. at Fort Stevens Elementary gymnasium
Wednesday, Jan. 22 at 6 p.m. at Yelm Middle School commons
The YCS Board of Directors voted to place the EP&O levy measure back on the ballot with a collection rate of $2.50 per $1,000 of assessed property value. The district attempted to pass the measure last February at the same rate but failed, and after lowering the rate to $2.25 per $1,000 of assessed property value, it failed again but by a slimmer margin.
