Yelm’s Prairie Days has quickly grown into Yelm’s most jam-packed week of the year.

From Tuesday, June 21 to Sunday, June 26, Yelm will be the hub for many different events in honor of the annual festival.

On Tuesday, Yelm businesses celebrated 1924 Business Day by offering specials unique to the event. BeJoyful Holistics offered a deal of $19.24 for any $25 skin care purchase, while Bertoglio’s Pizza offered $19.24 for a large pepperoni pizza. Bliss Experience provided its customers with a $19.24 discount on a $100 purchase, while realtor Jesse Kellems pledged to make a donation of $192.40 if one of his clients buys or sells a home.

Other businesses also featured specials on June 21. Lash and Brow Babes offered $19.24 off of any full set of lashes, Mat Magick offered 19% off of a $240 massage and Olympia Federal Savings offered a chance to win a $119.24 gas card. Yelmify provided shirts for $19.24, and Yelm Prairie Lanes offered games and shoe rentals for $1.94.

Then on June 22, Yelm celebrated Spunky School Spirit day. The Yelm community was asked to wear elementary, middle or high school apparel.

On Thursday, June 23, Yelm will celebrate Prairie Pride day. Yelm residents are requested to wear old school prairie-style clothing or anything “Pride of the Prairie” related. Beginning at 5 p.m. at the Yelm Prairie Historical Museum, Tim’s Pharmacy will serve ice cream to commemorate Prairie Pride Day. Music from the 1920s will be played, and those in attendance will be treated to a treasure hunt.

Then at the Yelm Community Center on Friday night, the Dress for the West event will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. The event will feature a beer garden, music and different food vendors.

On Saturday, City Culture Day will have multiple events taking place throughout the day. At 9 a.m., the Prairie Days Parade will occur, with parade lines forming behind Yelm Cinemas off of Northeast Fourth Street.

Following the parade, festivities will be underway at Yelm City Park from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. It will include a pie baking contest. Entries for the contest are due by noon at the Yelm Community Center. St. Columbian Catholic Church will also host a car show in its parking lot near the community center from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Prairie Days will conclude on Sunday, June 26, with Sport Style day. The Yelm Chamber of Commerce asks residents to wear sporting gear and cheer on the teams at the Charity Mushball Tournament. The ceremonial first pitch takes place at 10 a.m. at Longmire Park.

“We are so excited to get back to normal and bring a whole week of fun events for Prairie Days,” Yelm Chamber of Commerce Director Line Roy said. “Everyone is looking forward to the fun events that have been planned and we can’t wait to see the participation. This is going to be such a fun week.”
