Yelm Police Department detained a man on Sept. 4 who law enforcement were seeking in the shooting of a woman near the 16900 block of 148th Avenue Southeast.

According to Thurston County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO), Cody A. Merritt fled on foot on Sunday, Sept. 1, after allegedly firing a rifle at another resident of the property, striking her in the head. TCSO said that “every available detective has been working this case,” in efforts to identify and locate the suspect. There was probable cause to arrest Merritt on several felony charges.

Three days after the incident occurred in Yelm, Merritt turned himself in and was taken into custody by Yelm Police officers, according to a Facebook post made by TCSO Sheriff Derek Sanders.
