Wolves Blitz Beavers in Fourth Inning of Home Win

TUMWATER — With consistency on the mound, and a big fourth inning, the Black Hills baseball team outlasted Tenino Tuesday afternoon, 8-2, at home.

The Wolves got six solid innings out of starter Mark Otto, with the lefty allowing just two hits, striking out five and giving up one earned run. Brayden Golder came in to relieve Otto in the seventh, and got three straight outs to slam the door on a Beaver comeback.

The Beavers got out ahead early, taking advantage of a Black Hills error in the top of the first, but couldn’t do much after that. They would respond with a run in the sixth, but couldn’t get enough going at the plate to steal a road win against a 2A squad. Mikey Vasser and Cody Strawn recorded Tenino’s only hits of the day.

Tenino also struggled on the mound, giving up two runs in the first inning due to two walks, a single, and two fly outs, and especially in the fourth.

With just a one-run lead, the Wolves rattled off a double, a walk, a single, and three more singles to score runs to blow the game open midway through.

Black Hills’ Asher Shortland went 2 for 3 on the day with two RBIs, a walk, and a double, while Max Johnson scored two runs batting 1 for 3 with a double.

The Wolves will return to league play against Centralia next on Thursday at home, while the Beavers open league play against Eatonville in a doubleheader next Tuesday.
