Yelm Farmers Market 

The 2024 Yelm Farmers Market will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 21, at 206 McKenzie Ave., near City Park. The event will feature 20 or more vendors offering farmers, artisans, bakers, beekeepers, leatherworkers and more, plus a children’s program and special events. Rainier Saturday Market 

The Rainier Saturday Market will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., 206 Binghampton St. SE, near Wilkowski Park, Saturdays through September. Among the items featured are custom blankets, vintage clothing, items for horses, paintings and other artwork, bird houses, planters, doll clothes, soil testing, seedlings and more. 

Thursday, Sept. 19

Yelm Soccer hosts Black Hills

Yelm soccer, 2-0 at the time of print, will host non-conference opponent Black Hills at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 19, at Yelm High School. 

Friday, Sept. 20

Yelm Football hosts Kamiakin

The Yelm Tornados football team, 2-0, will host the Kamiakin Braves, 1-1, at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 20. The non-conference matchup marks the first meeting between the two programs, and tickets can be purchased online at GoFan.co. 

Monday, Sept. 23

Yelm Volleyball hosts Emerald Ridge

After a week break from competition, Yelm High School’s volleyball team, 2-0, returns to action at 7:15 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 23, against SPSL North Division opponent, Emerald Ridge. The matchup between the two 4A programs will occur inside YHS’s gymnasium. Tickets for the contest can be purchased online at GoFan.Co.

Rainier Senior Center driving class

The Rainier Senior Center will host a driving class from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 25. The course is endorsed by the Washington Traffic Safety Education Association (WTSEA), the Washington Traffic Safety Commission (WTSC), American Automobile Association (AAA) and The Department of Licensing (DOL). Participants must be over the age of 55 to attend the class, and attendees will receive a certificate for 5 to 10% off their automobile insurance over a two- to three-year period. The cost of the course is $15.

Friday, Sept. 27

Rainier Football hosts Onalaska

Rainier football will host Central 2B opponent Onalaska High School on Friday, Sept. 27, at RHS. The game kicks off at 7 p.m.

Saturday, Sept. 28

Preparedness Expo 

Thurston County Emergency Management will host a “Preparedness Expo” from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 28, at the Yelm Community Center, 301 Second St. SE. The event, which will include activities for the whole family, invites residents to learn how organizations are preparing for and how they can prepare themselves and their families for emergencies.

Alpaca Days celebrations

To celebrate alpacas, owners from across the United States, including a farm in Yelm, will participate in national Alpaca Farm Days Saturday, Sept. 28, and Sunday, Sept. 29.

The public is invited to come to La Vida Alpaca and Tahoma Vista Fiber Mill from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days to learn about the animals, the fiber they produce and the alpaca business. La Vida Alpaca and Tahoma Vista Fiber Mill is located at 15631 159th Lane SE, just off of Vail Road in Yelm.

Saturday, Oct. 12

YHS Class of 2004 reunion

Yelm High School’s class of 2004 is hosting a “Homecoming Country Hoedown” reunion, scheduled for 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 12, at Lisenby Farm, 25057 188th Ave. SE, Kent. The reunion will feature a “lively country-style theme.” Guests are encouraged to bring their boots and blankets for a “comfortable, festive evening.” Tickets for the event can be purchased online at https://lisenbyfarm.com/shop-1/yhs-20-year-reunion. Tickets for the event currently cost $55, however, the discounted price will soon rise to $65.
