30th annual Rainier Bluegrass Festival

The 30th annual Rainier Bluegrass festival is scheduled for Friday, Aug. 23, through Sunday, Aug. 25, at Wilkowski Park in Rainier. The event kicks off at 3 p.m. Aug. 23, with an open-mic event, followed by two shows from 2:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 24. Attendants can enjoy a gospel jam beginning at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 25.

Saturday, Aug. 24

Yelm Farmers Market 

The 2024 Yelm Farmers Market will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 10, at 206 McKenzie Ave., near City Park. The event will feature 20 or more vendors offering farmers, artisans, bakers, beekeepers, leatherworkers and more, plus a children’s program and special events. Rainier Saturday Market 

The Rainier Saturday Market will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., 206 Binghampton St. SE, near Wilkowski Park, Saturdays until September. Among the items featured are custom blankets, vintage clothing, items for horses, paintings and other artwork, bird houses, planters, doll clothes, soil testing, seedlings and more. 

Rainier Round-Up Days Parade

The annual Rainier Round-Up Days Parade, part of the Rainier Round-Up Days festival, begins at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, on the corner of Idaho and Binghampton streets. It is followed by Rainier Round-Up Days activities and the Rainier Bluegrass Festival. 

Movies in the Park

The annual Movies in the Park series at Longmire Park in Yelm is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 24, with activities beginning at the location at 5 p.m. The movie, “Trolls Band Together,” will begin at 8:25 p.m. The movie is rated PG. There will be a concession stand opened at the park for snack sales at the event. 

Children’s STEAM Event

Yelm Timberland Library will host a “Children’s STEAM Event” from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 24. The library invites attendants to “join the gooey fun” and “dive into the wacky world” of non-Newtonian fluids by creating their own slime. 

Tuesday, Aug. 27

Reptile Man visits library

“The Reptile Man” will visit Yelm Timberland Library from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 27. He will present an educational live-animal demonstration, featuring eight to 12 reptiles from all over the world. Attendants of the event will have the opportunity to handle or touch several of the reptiles after the activity concludes.



Yelm Community Center blood drive

Bloodworks Northwest will host a blood drive from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug 27, and Wednesday, Aug. 28, at the Yelm Community Center. The organization is sounding an emergency call urging Type O+ and O- blood donors to help restore blood supply after dropping to alarmingly low levels. Saturday, Aug. 31

Roy September Rodeo

The Roy Pioneer Rodeo returns on Saturday, Aug. 31, and Sunday, Sept. 1, to provide Labor Day weekend entertainment to those in attendance. Those interested can look forward to drill team competitions, roping events, bulls, broncs, cow milking and more. Tickets for the event can be purchased at the gate. The event will last from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Thursday, Sept. 5

Yelm volleyball hosts Tenino

Yelm High School’s volleyball program will kick off the 2024 athletic season with a home matchup at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 5, in the home gymnasium against the non-conference Tenino Beavers. Tickets to the contest can be purchased online at GoFan.co. 

Friday, Sept. 6

Yelm football hosts Mount Tahoma

Yelm High School will kick off its 2024 football season at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 6, at home in a non-conference matchup against the Mount Tahoma Thunderbirds. The two programs met in the 2023 WIAA 3A state playoff quarterfinals, where the Tornados defeated the Thunderbirds, 29-12, to advance to the 3A state semifinals. Tuesday, Sept. 10

Yelm soccer hosts Mount Tahoma

Yelm High School’s soccer program will kick off its 2024 season at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 10, against the Mount Tahoma Thunderbirds. The matchup marks the Tornados’ first soccer contest as a 4A program, while Mount Tahoma remains in the 3A classification.

Friday, Sept. 13

Prestige Senior Living Spaghetti Feed

Yelm’s Prestige Senior Living Rosemont will host a spaghetti feed from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 13, at its location, 215 Killion Road SE, in Yelm. For $10, participants can enjoy spaghetti, garlic bread, Caesar salad, non-alcoholic beverages and desserts. There will also be raffle items given away with tickets costing just $1. All proceeds will be donated to Alzheimer’s awareness.
