Family Storytime

Join the Yelm Timberland Library from 10:30 to 11 a.m. every Thursday for family storytime. The event includes music, movement, books and activities for the whole family. Children must be accompanied by a participating adult. The library is at 210 Prairie Park St. NE in Yelm.

Friday, Dec.15

Yelm Girls Basketball hosts Capital

Yelm girls basketball hosts its third home game of the season at 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 15 as the Capital Cougars, South Sound Conference opponents, head to town for a league matchup.

Saturday, Dec. 16

Morning with Mrs. Claus

Yelm Parks and Recreation Department will host Mrs. Claus from 8:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 16, as she leads a craft exercise, story time and cookie decorating. Sunday, Dec. 17

Cookies for Santa

The Roy Grange invites the community to come out to its location on Water Street for its second annual Cookies for Santa Event. Participants are invited to bake cookies for Santa himself and can enjoy holiday movies in the facility’s TV area. The event will last from 12:45 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. People can bring their cameras and take selfies with Santa and his trusty elves.

Worthy Coffee Co. Live worship night

Worthy Coffee Co. will host a live worship night at 5:45 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 17 at the shop’s location, 9111 346th St. S., in Roy. Participants can sing Christmas songs and praise together.

Yelm Girls Basketball Hosts North Kitsap

Yelm High School’s girls basketball team hosts non-conference opponent 2A North Kitsap at 6:15 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 18 inside the YHS gymnasium.

Tuesday, Dec. 19

Taste of the Prairie — Red Lantern Asian Fusion

Patrons who make a purchase at Red Lantern restaurant on Tuesday, Dec. 19 will have a portion of the proceeds donated to Yelm Dollars for Scholars, https://yelm.dollarsforscholars.org. Yelm Boys Basketball hosts Capital High School

Yelm High School’s boys basketball team will host Capital High School at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 20, inside YHS’s gymnasium. The South Sound Conference matchup marks the Tornados’ fourth league game of the season.

Uptown Lounge holiday trivia and ugly sweater contest

Uptown Lounge, located 201 Prairie Park St. SE in Yelm, will host holiday trivia and an ugly sweater contest beginning at 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 20. Prizes will be given out to winners of trivia and the ugly sweater contest.

Winter Solstice Walk



The City of Yelm Parks and Recreation Department is hosting the annual Winter Solstice Walk from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 21 at Cochrane Memorial Park, 10236 Mill Road SE. The department invites participants to walk throughout the candlelit Cochrane Park to celebrate the shortest day of the year. At the end of the walk, participants can enjoy a cup of warm apple cider.

Yelm wrestling hosts four-way meet

Yelm’s boys wrestling team will host SSC rival Gig Harbor and non-conference schools Oak Harbor and Nathan Hale beginning at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 21 inside YHS’s gymnasium. Yelm’s team will wrestle each of the schools once.

Yelm High School’s girls basketball team will host the Central Kitsap Cougars at 7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 5 inside the YHS gymnasium. The contest marks Yelm’s sixth South Sound Conference game of the season.

Bigelow House Museum Tour

The Bigelow House Museum offers regular escorted tours on the first and second Sunday of the month at 1 p.m., 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. Entrance fees are $5 per adult, $4 for seniors and students, and $2 for children. The museum is located at 918 Glass Ave. NE in Olympia.

Yelm wrestling hosts North Thurston

Yelm High School’s boys wrestling team will host North Thurston High School on Thursday, Jan. 11 in a dual inside YHS’s gymnasium.

Tuesday, Jan. 23

Coach Strand’s Final Home Wrestling Dual

Yelm’s wrestling program invites the community to celebrate legendary head wrestling coach Gaylord Strand as he coaches his final home dual as the program’s head coach. This season marks Strand’s 50th year as the Tornados head coach. The event is set to begin at 4:45 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 23, as Yelm will wrestle Bethel Bison. At the conclusion of the dual, community members can join former wrestlers, coaches and current athletes in celebrating Strand’s career with speakers, presents and food.

Saturday, Feb. 17

Artvana Sip and Paint

Artvana will host a sip and paint event beginning at 2:45 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 17 at the 507 Taproom next to Casa Mia. Tickets cost $45 and can be purchased on eventbrite.com. The event is for ages 21 and older. The event’s artist coach will guide participants through each step of painting the “Sweetheart Birch” art on canvas.
