The public is invited to the POW/MIA Monument on the Washington state Capitol Campus in Olympia at 10 a.m. on Sept. 18 for the annual POW/MIA Recognition Event.
The event is aimed at “honoring the brave service members who endured captivity as Prisoners of War and those who remain Missing in Action,” according to a news release from organizers.
This year’s ceremony will continue the tradition of reflection, remembrance and commitment to bringing every missing service member home, the release stated.
“This event is a powerful reminder that our POW/MIA veterans and their families are never alone. When our community comes together in Olympia, we create a space of remembrance, healing and unity,” Washington Department of Veterans Affairs Director David Puente Jr said in the release. “I encourage everyone to attend and stand with us as we honor those who endured captivity and those who have yet to return home.”
The Washington Department of Veterans Affairs encourages community members to attend and show their support for Washington’s POW/MIA heroes and the families who continue to search and look forward to their return.
