Veterans Honored During Breakfast at Prestige Senior Living Rosemont

Prestige Senior Living Rosemont hosted a special breakfast on Friday, Nov. 11 to honor those who have served the country on Veterans Day.

The free breakfast featured pancakes and sausage with “all the fixings.” Perhaps more important than breakfast was the bond at the table between servicemen and women, both past and present.

Sherry O’Dell, who works at  Prestige Senior Living Rosemont, wanted to ensure the day was special for the veterans who attended so she designed and stitched together custom quilts to give to the service members at the breakfast.

“It’s the least I can do to give back for all they’ve done for our country,” O’Dell said.

O’Dell has multiple family members who have served in the United States Army. They include her father, Kelcie Blades, her brother-in-law Bob Lyon, and her niece Skye Evans. She understands the sacrifices they have made, which helped spur her idea to honor the veterans at the event in her own way.

Each quilt had a different look to it, but featured similar patriotic symbols like the American Flag, and the military branch specific to the quilt recipient.

“It’s wonderful to be able to play a small part in their Veterans Day celebration,” O’Dell said. “I just wanted to try to bring them a little bit of joy.”

O’Dell said she fully supports the service men and women in the Yelm community and is thankful for the sacrifices they have made for their families and their country.

“Whenever I’m out in the stores, I try to thank them for their service. It’s the least I can do considering their service,” O’Dell said. “I just appreciate these people and everything they’ve done for our country. If there’s anything I could ever do for them, I would do it.”

Randy and Elisa Pole were also in attendance at the Veterans Day breakfast. The two said they were there to honor Randy’s late father, Charlie Pole, who served during the Korean War.

“My father passed away a week ago, so we’re here today to honor his memory, and the sacrifices he made for America,” Randy Pole said. “We’re very thankful Rosemont allowed us to join them today.”
