The Thurston County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO) recently honored several staff members as 2025 employees of the year in their respective positions.

The employees are:

• Deputy Arana: Corrections Deputy of the Year

Deputy Arana has been with TCSO for five years and “embodies everything you could ask for from a Corrections Deputy,” TCSO said in a news release. “He is team oriented, hardworking, and a natural leader that new deputies gravitate toward to learn from. Deputy Arana has earned a reputation of excellence and trust within the jail,” TCSO stated.

• Deputy Goss: Deputy of the Year

Deputy Goss led numerous high profile and complex cases over the last year before rotating out of detectives, including the horrific murder of a Tenino woman and the capture of a high profile criminal who shot at pursuing deputies, according to TCSO. Additionally, Goss solved a cold case homicide of a murdered indigenous woman that led to the recovery of her remains, providing closure for her family.

• Support Specialist Shelley: Support Staff of the Year

Support Specialist Shelley works in the TCSO Civil Unit, but “has proved herself as highly capable of supporting any section within the office,” TCSO stated. “Support Specialist Shelley has quickly become an expert within the office and sets the highest example through her work performance every day.” In 2025, Shelley processed approximately 3,000 protection orders, 1,500 civil papers, 20 sales, and 300 writs, according to TCSO.

• Sergeant Reynolds: Deputy Leader of the Year

Sergeant Reynolds serves as TCSO’s training sergeant and has been instrumental in the improvement to TCSO’s training curriculum, according to TCSO. Reynolds led a comprehensive overhaul of TCSO’s in-service training that led to an additional 200 hours of instruction and helped develop the field trailing officer process for new cadets. “Sergeant Reynolds' consistent level of innovation and mentorship has set a lasting standard of excellence,” TCSO stated.

• Corrections Sergeant Coleman: Corrections Leader of the Year

“Sergeant Coleman is known for his exceptional commitment to developing those around him, leading a one year long initiative to address training gaps,” TCSO stated. Coleman also serves in peer support, investing his time and energy into promoting the health and wellbeing of his coworkers, according to TCSO.
