Barrett Schnetz, a Yelm High School outfielder, started his final campaign in red and black on fire. After a week of baseball where he collected a hit in nearly every at-bat, the Tornado athlete is being recognized for his performance.

In the first week of Yelm’s season, the senior posted a batting average of .833 and collected four RBIs, two doubles, a triple, two walks and five total hits — earning him the honor of Washington’s Prep Baseball Report Hitter of the Week.

Entering the 2025 season, Yelm’s head coach Dakota Hill described Schnetz as one of the program’s team leaders and someone who could be leaned upon during big moments. Early in the season, Schnetz has lived up to the expectations on the field and in the dugout.

The Tornados began its 2025 season with a record of 1-1 after picking up a 13-5 win over non-conference opponent Steilacoom, and losing 8-3 to non-conference opponent Tenino. The Camas Papermakers came to town on Saturday, March 22, and defeated Yelm 11-2.
