Thurston COVID-19 Cases Continue to Increase as 571 are Tallied

New cases of COVID-19 in Thurston County increased in the health department’s latest report as 571 cases and no deaths were tallied during the period of May 2 through May 8.

The prior week there were 490 COVID-19 cases reported between April 25 and May 1.

Out of the 47,284 total county cases reported by May 9, patients who have recovered or are recovering increased to 46,037, according to the county health department.

As of May 10, the county health department reported a total of 2,297 COVID-related hospitalizations in Thurston County since the start of the pandemic.

Health care workers have vaccinated 66% of the population countywide since the beginning of the pandemic, according to DOH.

In neighboring Pierce County, deaths landed at .4 per 100,000 population, and new cases were at 244.7 per 100,000 population as of May 10, according to the Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department. The total number of cases in the county reached 197,187 as of May 10 with 1,400 deaths, according to DOH.

In Washington state, as of May 10, there were 1,519,327 total confirmed cases of COVID-19, a total of 60,900 people have been hospitalized because of the illness, and 12,742 people have died, according to DOH.

Over 13.6 million vaccine doses have been administered in the state.

Nationwide, as of May 10, there were 81,717,488 total cases since the start of the pandemic. There were confirmed 995,118 deaths and 82.6% of Americans 5 years old and up have at least one of the vaccinations, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). New cases over the last 30 days have been on a slow upwards trajectory, while new deaths over the last 30 days are on a steady downward trend, CDC graphs indicated.
