Thurston County Tallies 487 New COVID-19 Cases, 10 Deaths

Thurston County reported 487 new COVID-19 cases and 10 deaths during the period of July 25 through July 31.

The deaths include two men in their 50s, two women in their 70s, two men and a woman in their 80s, and two women and a man in their 90s.

The previous week there were 721 cases reported and zero deaths between July 18 to July 24.  

Out of the 54,969 total county cases reported by Aug. 2, patients who have recovered or are recovering increased to 53,838, according to the county health department.

As of Aug. 2, the county health department reported a total of 2,645 COVID-related hospitalizations and 420 deaths in Thurston County since the start of the pandemic.

Health care workers have vaccinated 66.7% of the population countywide since the beginning of the pandemic, according to Washington state Department of Health (DOH).



In neighboring Pierce County, deaths per 100,000 population couldn’t be calculated because less than 10 people died, and new cases were down at 198 per 100,000 population as of Aug. 2, according to the Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department. 

The total number of cases in the county reached 221,989 as of Aug. 2, with 1,471 deaths, according to DOH.

In Washington state, as of Aug. 2, there were 1,740,938 total confirmed cases of COVID-19, a total of 68,854 people have been hospitalized because of the illness, and 16,652 people have died, according to DOH.

Over 14.3 million vaccine doses have been administered in the state. 

Nationwide, as of Aug. 2, there were 91,198,391 total cases since the start of the pandemic. There were 1,025,363 confirmed deaths and 83.5% of Americans 5 years old and up have at least one of the vaccinations, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
