Thurston County recognizes winners of second annual art contest

Staff says it surpassed its three goals for the contest this year

Thurston County announced and recognized the winners of its second annual art contest during its Tuesday board meeting.

Winning artwork for the contest, which was themed “Homegrown and Handmade,” will be featured at county offices for public viewing. Winners were broken down into three categories: gallery voting, which was conducted at The Atrium by the public and county staff during a viewing; a round of voting by the Board of County Commissioners, and a “people’s choice” voting on Facebook. Each category is further divided into staff, youth and adult categories, as well as an overall winner.

The gallery voting winners are as follows:

• Staff: Olivia Studebaker’s “Reframe Abundance”

• Youth: Jamie Meier’s “Basket Weave Cutting Board”

• Adult and overall: Mark Schult’s scratchboard water color piece “Twilight at the Liberty Theater”

 

The commissioners’ honorable mentions include:

• Adult: Cindy Swan’s “Summer Reflections”

• Adult: Stacey Biddle’s “An Artists Heaven”



• Adult: Pam Stoutenburg’s “Plein Air Longs Pond”

• Adult: Sea Kinney’s “Nectar of Life”

• Youth: Sophia Robinson’s “Together at the Fair”

 

Finally, the “people’s choice” winners, selected through Facebook, were:

• Staff: Lara Tukarski’s “Edge of the Day” and Tiff West’s “Tessellations”

• Youth: Coya Mauger’s “Sunless Sunflower”

• Adult and overall: Lori Eastlick’s “Peacock Bowl”
