Thurston County declares hazardous weather event for Aug. 23-25

Thurston County Public Health and Social Services has issued a hazardous weather advisory to increase shelter-in-place efforts as temperatures are expected to reach the low to mid-90s this weekend and early next week.

Olympia Mutual Aid Partners will be conducting outreach with emergency supplies to those without shelter. Sergio’s Place Service Center operations will extend hours on Saturday and Sunday. Sergio’s will extend hours to close at 8 p.m. on Saturday. The service center, located at 3501 Mary Elder Road NE in Olympia, is usually closed on Sundays and Mondays but will open from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. to provide shelter from the heat.



Interfaith Works accepts donations at Sergio’s Place Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. No parking on Martin Way is allowed. Items needed include bottled water, sports drinks, sports drink mix, popsicles, non-perishable snacks, tarps, hats, summer clothing, sunscreen, etc.
