The Thurston Conservation District (TCD) has announced it will hold a “United in Conservation” event, a two-day celebration featuring three unique events that center around local food, conservation and resilience.
• Friday, Oct. 2 — Local Agriculture in the Time of a Changing Climate:
Local Agriculture in the Time of a Changing Climate will explore climate-smart agriculture practices and the connection with local habitat conservation, and connect with other farmers, growers, leaders and all attendees. The full-day event will include a keynote speech by Willie Frank Jr. of the Nisqually Tribe, as well as a resource fair, climate grief support group, and seven field sessions to choose from, all held at the Lacey Community Center, according to the release.
Full price, farmer sponsor and volunteer ticket options are available at thurstoncd.com, along with a full schedule of events.
• Saturday, Oct. 3 — TCD’s fifth annual Harvest Festival:
A free family-friendly event, this annual celebration includes a competitive pie contest, live music, cider pressing, kids activities and free information.
Aspects of the conference will be woven in, and those interested in farmland preservation are invited to attend an apple cider mixer hour at noon.
This event will be at the South Union Grange Hall.
Additionally, on Saturday, Oct. 3, there will be a Farm-to-Table Harvest fundraiser dinner.
Residents can learn about the efforts to build a Conservation and Education Center to support the community while enjoying a local meal by Westwater Kitchen. This dinner will feature live music, interactive presentations and displays.
Individual and table tickets are available.
Tickets and event details can be found at thurstoncd.com.
