The defending 1A District 4 champion Beavers vaulted out to a 4-1 victory over Columbia (White Salmon) Friday in Tenino’s season opener. The Beavers’ lone loss came in No. 2 singles.

  • No. 1 singles: Megan Letts (Tenino) defeated Juliet Perez, 6-2, 6-2
  • No. 2 singles: Claire Hayes (Columbia) defeated Ashley Schow, 6-4, 6-2
  • No. 3 singles: Bailee McKitrick defeated Jojo Beck, 7-5, 6-3
  • No. 1 doubles: Rilee Jones and Destiny Sampley (Tenino) defeated Audrey Coyner and Lynette Black, 6-2, 6-4
  • No. 2 doubles: Abby Coty and Lauren McClasin (Tenino) defeated Jessice McGure and Athziri Cortes, 6-1, 6-1

Tenino’s second-year coach Sam Shea said she saw a lot of promising performances from her team for just the first match of the year.

“They were all right on top of things,” Shea said. “Very impressed. Great way to start the season.”

Tenino (1-0) next hosts Eatonville at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
