Tenino Eliminated on First Day of District Tournament

The Tenino softball team saw its season come to an end in the Hub City, falling 18-0 to White Salmon in its first game at the 1A District 4 tournament and 11-1 to Seton Catholic.

The Beavers end their season with a 5-14 record, but have a return to Districts to hang their hat on, despite having only one senior in their starting lineup, after missing out last year.

“We did get here, and that’s a huge accomplishment,” Tenino coach Chris Johnson said.

Tenino got its run against Seton Catholic on a two-out rally in the top of the first inning, when Sophia Hussey doubled to right, Kiyah Goodwin got her to third on a single, and Jadin Woodward hit a ball that got through the defense to score her.

The rest of the way, the Tenino bats struggled, putting together just six hits in eight innings.

White Salmon put the Beavers away early, dropping 12 runs in the bottom of the first inning of Tenino’s first game before adding six more in the second. Seton Catholic did things more consistently, with four in the first, one in the second, four in third, and two in the fourth.

Macie Scharber had two hits on the day to lead Tenino.

The Beavers are set to graduate four seniors: Lizzie Disken, Anna Morrill, Karlee Warren, and Paige Pearson, and Brooklyn Sweet.

Meanwhile, they’ll return eight starters, half of whom were freshmen this season.

“I think this is the best thing for us because it’s going to prepare us for next year,” Johnson said. “We don’t have to think or hesitate or think about what it’s going to be like next year. We know what it’s going to be like, we know what to expect. Now, we’ll be able to build on that and really start to move forward.”
