The City of Tenino announced it received the Community Outdoor Athletic Facility Grant award for the sum of $589,700. The city will utilize the funds for its ballfield renovation project, as there have been no major updates to the fields at the Tenino City Park beyond basic maintenance since 1992.
Tenino plans to improve one of the playing fields and refurbish the 30-year-old dugouts, as well as add more accessible hardscapes. The project will also include fencing repairs and upgrades to the bases, foul pole repair, drainage and scoreboard.
Work will begin in 2025 after a thorough cultural resource study is conducted. The study is funded by the grant.
To keep costs reasonable and make the application competitive, the city decided not to pursue stadium lights, which would have cost an estimated $400,000, or turf, which would have cost $1 million.
