Tahoma Valley Golf Course Completes Upgrades as Summertime Approaches

Summer is just around the corner and the Tahoma Valley Golf Course in Yelm is welcoming golfers of all skill levels. Unlike other small community golf courses that are outside of town, Tahoma is in the meat of the city and features sweeping views of Mount Rainier.

According to Tahoma Valley Golf Course Golf Pro and General Manager Dave Kendall, the new holes at the course for 2022 are complete and grown in.

“The course is in fantastic condition and with the help of our new superintendent, it will be better than ever,” Kendall said.

Tahoma Valley Golf Course is known to have the driest course in the Puget Sound, which compliments its manicured greens that putt fast. Because of this, it showcases the best of bump-and-run golf, where golfers try to keep the ball very low and “bump” it close to the green so it can run close to the hole.

The golf course made a couple of adjustments from last year to accommodate Yelm’s Mosman Avenue Southwest road project. Those adjustments are not complete, but the holes are in place. At the end of last year they also updated the irrigation system.

The 18-hole course is 5,930 yards from the back tees, meaning it’s player friendly for beginners. Despite wide fairways that can be forgiving, it’s narrow enough and there is an abundance of mature trees throughout to present challenges for the experienced golfer as well.

“The course accommodates every level of player,” Kendall said. “There is room to recover on most holes from wayward shots. Well placed shots present birdie opportunities.”

The golf course has a few outside tournaments booked for this summer, but the majority are on Saturdays. Tee times are still accessible on weekdays as well as most afternoons. And when people are done with their round, they can enjoy a great selection of food at the clubhouse.

“Our restaurant serves both the community as well as our players,” Kendall said. “We have a hearty breakfast and lunch menu along with a selection of dinners such as prime rib on Fridays.”

The golf course also sends out monthly specials for golf rounds via email and people can go to  https://www.tahomavalleygolf.com/ and sign up for updates.

“Tahoma Valley is a gem,” Kendall said. “Rates are very affordable. Access and pace of play are by far better than our competitors.”
