Southbound Interstate 5 was blocked for just over four hours Wednesday night in Thurston County after a semi crashed into a possible drunk driver who was stopped in the middle of the highway.
Washington State Patrol troopers were dispatched to the crash at approximately 11:32 p.m. on March 4.
David J. Lodge, 20, of Lacey, was reportedly driving a black 2014 Honda Civic that was stopped in the middle lane of southbound I-5 just south of milepost 104 near Tumwater when a semi crashed into him from behind. The Honda’s lights were not on, according to a State Patrol incident report.
The semi, driven by Randy T. Sheffield, 67, of Bellingham, also struck a second semi in the right lane.
That semi, driven by Burjot Singh, 31, of San Jose, California, came to rest on the right shoulder.
Sheffield’s semi and the Honda came to rest in the center lane.
Lodge was transported to Capital Medical Center for medical treatment. He was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, according to a State Patrol incident report.
The two semi drivers were uninjured.
The cause of the crash is under investigation. Lodge is facing possible DUI charges.
