Woman Utilizes Bear Spray to Stop Assault

Yelm police officers responded to a call on Tuesday, Nov. 8 to a report from a woman who said she was beaten by her boyfriend in a tent behind a business in the 16600 block of state Route 507. 

Upon arrival, police officers immediately noticed injuries to the woman’s face, neck and lip, according to a police report.

During the altercation, the woman said she sprayed her boyfriend with bear spray to get him to stop.

Officers were able to locate the man.

Both individuals were transported to Providence St. Peter Hospital for treatment. The suspect reportedly became verbally aggressive with the hospital staff as well as police officers.

He was booked on a charge of second-degree assault.

Items Stolen During Vehicle Prowl

Yelm police officers responded to a call at around 1 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 11 to a report of a person who said three people broke into their vehicle on 104th Avenue Southeast and stole several items.

Officers learned a purse, a wallet, a Discover card and several debit cards were stolen from the vehicle.

The reporting party saw two men and a woman break into the vehicle, according to a police report.



The cards were used at the Safeway in Yelm, but officers were unable to identify the suspects.

There are no leads at this time.

Bike Stolen from Solberg Street Shed

Yelm police officers responded to a call just before noon on Sunday, Nov. 13 to a report that someone broke into their shed on Solberg Street and stole a bicycle.

The reporting party told officers the bike is valued at $500.

Officers observed noticeable damage to the shed.

At this time, there are no further leads.

Woman Arrested For Drug Paraphernalia Possession

A Yelm police officer was driving on Old McKenna Road at around 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 9 when they spotted an individual walking northbound on the roadway who had an existing warrant out for their arrest.

The officer reportedly turned around and detained the woman with no complications, but found straws and pens with drug residue during a search. The officer also located burnt tin foil and a white substance believed to be methamphetamine, stated a police report. 

The suspect claimed the purse that contained the items wasn’t hers and stated it belonged to a friend.

The woman was booked into jail for the warrant and for the use of drug paraphernalia.
