Resident Reports Scam Craigslist Posting

Yelm police officers responded to a call at around 3 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 23, after a woman called to report she believed she had been scammed out of over $1,500.

She explained to officers that she found an advertisement on Craigslist regarding a rental home. After some conversation with the poster, she sent $1,680 over two payments for the down payment and for the first month’s rent.

After she paid the money, connection and communication between the two began to diminish, and eventually the victim’s phone calls to the suspect went straight to voicemail.

Yelm police officers advised the woman to contact her bank to report the fraud.

Multiple Businesses Broken Into During Early Hours

Yelm police officers responded to a call at around 6 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 24, after an employee at Red Lantern Asian Fusion reported the business had been broken into.

Upon arrival, police identified the glass door was shattered by the suspect, who then entered the restaurant.

Police officers found the register and several locked boxes on the ground as well. 

Following the incident at Red Lantern, Yelm police officers went to Grocery Outlet in Yelm, where an employee reported their glass door was broken and someone had broken in. 

At this time, there are no further leads for either of the incidents.



Shoplifters Steal Deli Meat From Store

Yelm police officers responded to a call at around 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 26, after a Safeway employee reported two individuals had left the store without paying for deli meat.

Upon arrival, the employee told officers the two shoplifters left on foot as they headed toward Jack in the Box. 

Police officers weren’t able to find the suspects, however, they found the deli meat thrown on the ground.

After checking the Nisqually Plaza parking lot, police officers couldn’t identify the suspects. 

Assault Reported at Yelm AM/PM

Yelm police officers responded to a call at around 6:30 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 29, after a woman showed up to the Yelm AM/PM with a bloodied face.

Upon arrival, officers saw the woman was bleeding from her lip, with swelling on her forehead and bruising on her cheek.

She stated she was assaulted by a man and a woman while exiting her vehicle, after she had ran out of gas. She said she was knocked down and kicked, before the man pulled out a gun. 

She described the man as being 5-foot-10 inches tall, with sandy colored hair that went to his mid-torso. 

There is no further information at this time.
