Fatal Collision Reported in Roy

Deputies from the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department were dispatched to a single-vehicle rollover collision at 304th Street East and Eighth Avenue East in Roy at around 1:50 a.m. on Sept. 25. Deputies arrived to find a vehicle and debris scattered in a field.

The sheriff’s department stated in a social media post that the driver was alert but the 19-year-old passenger was ejected from the vehicle and was found dead.

While speaking with the driver, the deputy reportedly noticed an odor of intoxicants. The 21-year-old driver was transported to the hospital for serious injuries and a blood draw was completed, stated the sheriff’s department.

The incident is being investigated as a vehicular homicide.

The sheriff’s department stated toxicology reports will be forwarded to the prosecutor’s office once they become available.

Yelm Police Department

Hit-and-Run Reported on Yelm Avenue

Yelm police officers responded to a call at around 6:22 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 19, to a report of a hit-and-run on Yelm Avenue.

Police reports state a burgundy colored sedan rear ended a vehicle at a traffic light in Yelm.

After the collision, the suspect attempted to flee.

The driver was unable to capture a license plate number and lost the driver near McDonalds in Yelm.

There was minimal damage to the vehicle.

At this time, there are no further details.

Explicit Photos Used as Blackmail



Yelm police officers responded to a call at around 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 21, after they received a report of an incident involving blackmail.

Police officers learned an unknown person hacked the reporting party’s phone and acquired explicit photos.

The hacker then allegedly threatened to leak the photos to the reporting party’s contact list, family members and place of employment, unless they sent money, stated a police report.

The reporting party also received two fraudulent checks in the mail, which were valued at nearly $4,000. The reporting party notified her bank of the fraudulent checks.

There are no further leads.

Vehicle Prowl Occurs at Yelm Safeway

Yelm police officers responded to a call shortly before 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 22 after a man called to report work equipment had been stolen out of his truck while he was shopping at Safeway in Yelm.

According to police reports, the man spent between 10 and 15 minutes inside the store before he returned to his vehicle.

After he left the parking lot, he noticed that much of his equipment was missing from his truck.

The missing tools were valued at around $600.

At this time, there is no further information.

Hit-and-Run Takes Place in Shiplap Parking Lot

Yelm police officers responded to a hit-and-run call in the Shiplap Parking lot shortly after 1 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 24.

According to police reports, an employee at Shiplap witnessed a tan minivan back up and hit a Kia in the parking lot.

After hitting the parked vehicle, the suspect fled the scene.
