Bet led to bomb threat at Rainier’s Dollar General

Thurston County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO) deputies were dispatched in the morning hours of Tuesday, Jan. 9 to Rainier’s Dollar General after reports of a bomb threat came in through a phone call.

According to TCSO, a 13-year-old from the East Coast lost a bet and called the store to make the bomb threat.

The sheriff’s office wrote on Facebook that the 13-year-old thought if he called from across the country, local police agencies wouldn’t be able to figure out who called.

“The child and his parents were shocked when the local law enforcement contacted them,” according to the Thurston County Sheriff’s Facebook page. “The child’s family was very cooperative with law enforcement on the East Coast and our detectives.”

Prior to these discoveries, nothing related to a bomb was located within the business as officers conducted a search inside and around the business.
