Seven Tornados named to SSC all-league fastpitch team

Following the conclusion of the Yelm Tornados fastpitch team’s 2024 season, the South Sound Conference announced the members of its all league team for the spring season. Yelm’s senior center fielder and St. Martin’s University commit Elissa Dewees was crowned league MVP.

Dewees concluded the 2024 season with a batting average of .553, an on-base percentage (OBP) of .616, and an on-base plus slugging (OPS) of 1.346. She collected 47 hits and 25 RBIs, while scoring 43 runs throughout the season. She walked 13 times, struck out just 10 times and stole eight bases.

Junior shortstop Austin Hitchner was voted first-team all league in the SSC. She concluded the season with a batting average of .387, an OBP of .478 and an OPS of 1.172. She finished the season with 29 hits, including three home runs and 25 RBIs. She walked 10 times during the season and struck out just five times. She also tallied 30 runs scored and stole just one base.

Senior outfielder Madisyn Erickson was also voted to the SSC’s first team. She concluded the season with a batting average of .468, an OBP of .562 and an OPS of 1.284. She totaled 37 hits, including four home runs and 38 RBIs throughout the season. Erickson scored 36 runs, walked 13 times and struck out 19 times. She also swiped three bases.



Sophomore pitcher Mallory Hoke was voted to the SSC all-league second team. She made 13 appearances on the mound for the Tornados, including 12 starts. She finished the 2024 season with an 8-3 record, posting an earned run average of 3.868 and a walks-hits per inning pitched of 1.626. Opposing batters struck out 46 times and posted a batting average of .257 when facing Hoke.

Freshman third baseman Kamille Kautz was also voted to the SSC all-league second team after her inaugural season on Yelm’s varsity team. She posted a batting average of .439, an OBP of .472 and an OPS of 1.082 throughout the season. Kautz totaled 36 hits in her 2024 campaign, including one home run and 35 RBIs. She scored 30 times, walked four times and struck out seven  times.

Junior first baseman Caylee Roberts was the third Tornado to be voted to the SSC all-league second team. She batted .447, had an OBP of .500 and an OPS of 1.237. She collected 34 hits, including five home runs and 31 RBIs. She scored 28 runs, walked seven times and struck out 15. Roberts also stole five bases and was caught stealing once.

Junior catcher Layah Hicks received a league honorable mention nod. She finished her season with a batting average of .323, an OBP of .384 and an OPS of .860. She tallied 21 hits, including two home runs and 17 RBIs. She also scored 15 runs, walked six times and struck out in 10 at-bats.
