Seven members of the Yelm Tornados fastpitch team were selected to the 2022 South Sound Conference All-League team, joining 39 girls who were selected.
Each of the seven athletes from Yelm played an instrumental role in the season.
Four senior Tornados made up the first team All-SSC. They include third baseman Ashlyn Aven, catcher Kendall Lawson, shortstop Kailei Thompson and pitcher Vivian Watts. Aven concluded the regular season batting .403, with an on-base percentage of .474. The corner defender collected four home runs and 28 RBIs during the regular season.
Lawson, who is heading to Pierce College, finished the regular season batting .500, with a stout on-base percentage of .556. The senior catcher also tallied a total of 17 RBIs over the course of the regular season. Her partner in crime Watts, who Lawson caught from all season, was selected first team after finishing the season with a 1.46 ERA, and 68 strikeouts against SSC opponents over 57.1 innings pitched.
The final Tornado to make the first team was Thompson, the shortstop, who batted .393 on the season, with an on-base percentage of .424. The senior also collected 16 RBIs.
Molly Embrey, the senior second baseman heading to Whitworth, was the only Tornado represented on the second team All-SSC. The speedy infielder finished the regular season with a .413 batting average, an on-base percentage of .481 and collected 13 RBIs. Embrey also scored 20 runs on the season, using her speed to the Tornados advantage.
Sophomore center fielder Elissa Dewees and freshman first baseman Jessika Jennings were each named honorable mentions for the 2022 All-SSC team.
Dewees batted .361 on the season, with a .540 on-base percentage. She also tallied 11 RBIs.
Jennings, who recently hit for the cycle in the 3A regional tournament, batted .533 with an on-base percentage of .588. The freshman also totalled 11 RBIs.
