‘Same dog?’: K9 Igo apprehends repeat offender one year later

Thurston County Sheriff’s Office K9 Igo was reunited Wednesday night with a suspect he apprehended almost exactly a year ago.

In that incident, the suspect had fled on foot and tried to hide under a porch, only for K9 Igo to drag him out.

On Wednesday night, K9 Igo and his handler assisted the Olympia Police Department with a subject fleeing from them on an e-bike. The rider had a felony escape warrant for assault.

“After being boxed into an alley, the suspect was given K9 warnings but continued to flee,” Thurston County Sheriff Derek Sanders said in a social media post.

K9 Igo was deployed and apprehended the suspect, only to discover it was the same suspect he’d apprehended in the separate incident a year prior.

“While being treated after the arrest, the suspect looked up and asked, ‘Same dog?’” the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office K9 Unit said in a social media post. “Yes. Yes it was.”

K9 Igo, who is partnered with Sgt. Bagby, joined the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office alongside K9 Bowie in February 2022, replacing retired K9s Jaxx and Dexter.
