Road obstruction at Walmart Boulevard intersection to be fixed soon

Drivers traversing through the Walmart Boulevard intersection on state Route 507 might have noticed a large cavity forming in the road following stage work being completed last month for the Yelm Loop.

Though that land doesn’t belong to the City of Yelm, nor does that specific project belong to the city, Yelm’s Public Works Director Cody Colt said his department has received a high volume of calls relating to the rough roadway. He told the Nisqually Valley News on Monday, Jan. 13, that Washington state Department of Transportation (WSDOT) has communicated that a repair to the road will occur by the end of this week.

“This is not a City of Yelm project. This is a part of the loop and moving utilities. It’s a mix of Comcast and Puget Sound Energy moving their utilities around to make room for the loop. They contracted out those jobs, and when somebody did it, they put down a temporary patch and obviously haven’t done a great job of that temporary patch. That’s what’s causing the big dip so many drivers are experiencing,” Colt said. “I’ve been receiving calls about it. It’s not a city project. It’s not city property, but we’re directing people towards contacting WSDOT and their contractors.”

People can contact the WSDOT Olympic Region office with concerns about the intersection or any other roadways in the region at 360- 357-2600 or by emailing orfeedback@wsdot.wa.gov. The WSDOT Olympic Region office is open to the public from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at 7407 31st Ave. NE, Lacey.
