U.S. Rep. Marilyn Strickland (WA-10) is aiming to bring some extra joy to the lives of service and emergency response members through the launch of her Valentines for Veterans and First Responders drive.

Strickland invites residents, schools and organizations to create handmade Valentine’s cards for veterans and first responders. Participants can leave the cards at several different drop box locations throughout the district through Tuesday, Feb. 6.

Local residents participating in the event can drop off the Valentine’s cards at Yelm City Hall from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Mondays through Thursdays, 106 Second St. SE. There is a labeled box in the lobby for drop-off.

“I want to thank the community members that created thousands of Valentine’s Day cards during last year’s drive,” Strickland said in a news release. “This annual program is an opportunity for the community to show our South Sound veterans and first responders appreciation for their service to our communities and nation.”

Once the Valentine’s cards are received and collected after Feb. 6, they’ll be distributed to service members and first responders living and working throughout the 10th Congressional District in Washington.

There are several other Valentine’s card drop-off locations throughout the district, including at Lacey, Lakewood and Puyallup city halls. Drop-off opportunities at those three city hall locations are available from Monday through Friday, with varying times. Participants with questions related to mailing or drop-off locations can contact Strickland’s office at (360) 459-8514.
