State Rep. Peter Abbarno, R-Chehalis, is encouraging students across the 20th Legislative District and the state to apply for the legislative page program during the 2026 session.
Each year, hundreds of students travel to Olympia to participate in the Washington state House of Representatives Page Program. This long-standing tradition gives young people a front-row seat to the lawmaking process, a news release from Abbarno stated.
“Serving as a page is more than just observing government — it’s experiencing it firsthand,” said Abbarno, House Republican Caucus chair. “Students get to see democracy in action, meet leaders from across the state, and play an active role in keeping the Capitol running. It’s an experience that stays with you for life.”
Pages serve for one week during the legislative session, which runs January through mid-March in 2026. Throughout the week, they assist lawmakers and staff, deliver messages across the Capitol campus, and participate in the opening flag ceremony on the House floor.
They attend Page School each day, where they learn about state government, public policy and the importance of civic engagement through interactive lessons and a mock committee hearing broadcast on TVW.
Students ages 14-16 are eligible to apply, provided they have parental permission and a teacher recommendation. Participants receive a daily stipend and gain insight into how ideas become law, while meeting other students from across Washington, according to the release.
“The Page Program helps young people build confidence, leadership skills, and a deeper appreciation for public service,” Abbarno said. “I encourage every student who’s curious about how their government works — or who wants to make a difference — to apply.”
Applications for the 2026 House Page Program are now open and can be found online at https://app.leg.wa.gov/pageapplication/.
Space is limited and positions fill quickly, so early applications are encouraged, the release stated.
