Rainier youth football franchise looking to fill spots before registration ends

The Rainier Jr. Mountaineers of the Thurston County Youth Football League are looking to fill spots for its tackle football teams before regular registration closes on July 15.

Specifically, the club is in need of the following:

• Second and third graders for the minor league team
• Fourth and fifth graders for the major junior varsity league team
• Sixth graders for the major varsity league team

The club said it would also welcome more flag football players, though current numbers are in good shape.

The Rainier Jr. Mountaineers recently held a gear checkout for its tackle football teams at the TCYFL Warehouse in Lacey on June 21. Preseason conditioning begins July 7. Practice starts Aug. 1.

Games are played on Saturdays during September and October.

A late registration period will follow regular registration from July 16-31.
