The Rainier softball team came away with a big win on Tuesday, as the Mountaineers dominated late and pulled away for a 14-1 win.
Rainier took control early with two in the first and added three in the second to push its lead to 5-0. That score held until the Mountaineers added another in the fourth and two more in the fifth.
After Tenino got on the board in the bottom of the fifth, Rainier broke it open with a six-spot in the sixth.
Four of those runs came across with two outs, as Ayana Elmstead, Mia Naval, Elaina Henry, and Ryleigh Cruse rattled off four RBI hits in a row.
Naval, Henry, and Cruse finished with three hits each. Henry drove in three, Naval brought homt another, and the trio combined for nine runs.
Cruse pitched six innings in the circle, giving up six hits and an unearned run while walking two and striking out seven.
Chloe Grayless allowed 14 runs pitching for the Beavers, but just six of them were charged as earned, and she struck out nine in six innings of her own.
Kate Burkhardt went 2 for 2 at the plate for Tenino, while Macie Scharber went 1 for 3 with an RBI double.
Both teams are back on Thursday, when Rainier (1-2) heads to Toutle Lake for a non-league tilt and Tenino (0-1) heads to Montesano for its league opener.
