Rainier Picks Up Dominant Win Over Napavine

Posted

Moved to the turf fields of the Regional Athletic Complex of Lacey, the Rainier softball team got going early and often in a 14-1 run-rule win over Napavine Friday afternoon.

The Mountaineers hit two home runs, with one coming from Keira Anderson and the other from Azlyn Taylor in a 17-hit day as a team. But like always, it starts in the circle with Bailey Elwell, who pitched a complete game with one earned run on three hits and one walk with 12 strikeouts.

“Bailey was so dominant in the circle,” Mountaineers coach Kyle Greenwood said. “That translates into more confidence throughout the team. We had multiple girls have multi-hit games and know that they can get on base in a variety of ways. It could be a slap, bunt, line drive contact hit, or an absolute bomb over the fence.”

The Tigers, meanwhile, had a hard time getting the bats going, with just three hits and one run to show for it. Hallie Denault knocked in the Tigers lone run in the fourth inning, scoring Danielle Tupuola.

The Mountaineers will look to keep rolling at the RAC in Lacey against Winlock on Monday, while the Tigers look to bounce back against Kalama at home.
