The Port of Olympia presented a $10,000 Small Cities Program grant check to the City of Rainier that will be used for upgrades to Wilkowski Park.

The City, which received the grant during the South Thurston Economic Development Initiative (STEDI) meeting at the Rainier Senior Center on Friday, June 21, aims to bring people into the Rainier community by building camping sites, pathways, a stage and a covered cooking area.

Rainier has also begun construction on four pickleball courts at Wilkowski Park. The City also plans to upgrade its current basketball court and build a new restroom, which has been in the works for four or five years, We Love Rainier WA volunteer George Johnson said.

The Port of Olympia also presented Small Cities Program grant checks to Bucoda, Rochester and Tenino during the STEDI meeting.
