Stifling Rainier all game, the Adna boys basketball team reassessed and refocused last weekend after a tough end to the week, and defeated the Mountaineers, 60-39 Wednesday night in a get-right game.
All three Meldrum triplets were held to single digits, and the Mountaineers themselves didn’t have a double-digit quarter until the third frame in a dominant defensive performance by the Pirates.
“I’m proud of the way these guys responded after last week,” Adna coach Luke Salme said. “It started over the weekend with film, then carried into two of our best practices of the year, and then we played with a lot more fighting spirit tonight.”
The Pirates were led by Braeden Salme’s game-high 27 points, and Seth Meister added 16. Rainier was led by Gavin Owen’s 10 points.
Adna will hope to get some momentum rolling against Winlock on Tuesday before a rematch with Napavine on senior night on Thursday, while Rainier takes on Napavine on Friday.
