The Olympia volleyball team defeated a feisty Yelm Tornados squad in a 25-17, 25-20, 25-21, sweep at home Monday, Oct. 5.

Stella Sheeran shined once again with an impressive statline of 17 kills, 11 digs, and four aces. Both of the Bears’ setters, Anna Johnston and McKenzie Madill, were game-changers, combining for 37 assists and 17 digs. Sophie Deiss provided six kills and three blocks at the net.

“Proud of our continued growth. We are working hard to stay present in each play,” Olympia head coach Christie Oldright said. “Yelm played tough defense tonight, which challenged our offense. We will keep working on our serve and pass, bettering the ball, finding ways to get kills and minimizing our unforced errors.”

Rylee Hominda posted a double-double for Yelm with 11 assists and 11 digs, and Anna Lee added eight kills and 12 digs.

"Good match and good fight from the Tornados," Yelm head coach Bailey Whalen said. "Things felt good but we fell short on offense. I'd like to serve tougher. I think when we create chaos, we do really well."

Olympia (4-6, 2-3 South Puget Sound League) stopped a two-game skid with Monday’s victory and will look to start a winning streak Wednesday, Oct. 7 at Bethel. Yelm (0-9, 0-5 SPSL) will head to University Place that night to face reigning 4A state runner-up Curtis.
