Food Bank

The Yelm Community Services food bank, at 624 Crystal Springs St. NW in Yelm, will hold a food giveaway from 1 to 3:45 p.m. on Thursday, March 9. Clients cannot enter the building and must wait in their vehicles. Staff will have pre-packed carts of food to hand out. To prevent health issues, the usual food sign-in procedures will not take place. Staff will ask the number of people in the family. People who come can only pick up for their own family. Please park in front of the food bank building.

Rainier Elementary Registration

The registration period for kindergartners for the 2023-24 school year at Rainier Elementary School is open. Children must be 5 years old on or before Aug. 31, 2023. Parents and guardians can pre-register their future kindergartener online at www.rainier.wednet.edu/domain/60. Click on the registration link to fill in the form. Staff from the elementaries office will contact parents to confirm interest in their elementary program and will review the registration process and paperwork. Prairie Point Quilters Guild Meeting

The Prairie Point Quilters Guild hosts its meetings on the second and fourth Thursday of each month. The meeting takes place from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Rainier Senior Center, 108 Michigan St. S. Anyone who is interested is welcome to join the group for its meetings.

Dollars for Scholars Dinner and Auction

Yelm Dollars for Scholars will host its 28th annual dinner and auction at the Lake Lawrence Community Club at 15735 Topaz Drive SE on Saturday, March 11. The event runs from 5 to 9 p.m. Tickets can be purchased online at yelm.dollarsforscholars.org.

Traveling Treasures St. Patrick’s Day Sale

Traveling Treasures Pacific Northwest Vendor Group is set to host a St. Patrick’s Day sale from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 11, at the Nisqually Moose Lodge at 1117 W. Yelm Ave. Admission is free to all. Local vendors and businesses will sell their goods.

Chamber Forum

The Yelm Chamber of Commerce will host its monthly forum at noon on Tuesday, March 14. Officials from Yelm Community Schools will talk about building a talent pipeline through work-based learning. The event will be held at the Yelm Community Center at 301 Second St. SE. Tickets can be purchased online at yelmchamber.com.

Taste of the Prairie: Puerto Vallarta

On Tuesday, March 14, visit Puerto Vallarta in Yelm from 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. and a portion of proceeds will be donated to Yelm Dollars for Scholars. Puerto Vallarta is located at 802 W. Yelm Ave.

Storytellers Featuring Jared Potter

The City of Yelm will host its Storytellers event from 6 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 15 at the Yelm Community Center at 301 Second St. SE. Jared Potter, an independent visual effects artist will share his story. The free event is hosted by the city’s parks and recreation department.

Swing Into Spring Fashion Show

Iron Works Boutique and Sandstone Cafe will present the “Swing Into Spring 2023” fashion show. It will feature personal wardrobe stylist Lisa Fischer. Check-in starts at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 16, and the show starts at 6:15 p.m. at The Kodiak Room at 235 Sussex Ave. in Tenino. Buddy Price will perform music and dinner will be catered by Sandstone Cafe. Tickets cost $40. They can be picked up at Iron Works Boutique at 224 Sussex Ave. W. in Tenino. Yelm Amateur Radio Group

The Yelm Amateur Radio Group will meet at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 18. The group is a nonprofit organization that provides testing for licensing related to radio, as well as an interest in amateur radio. The group meets on the first and third Saturday of each month at the Emanuel Lutheran Church, 206 Third St. SE, in Yelm.

On Tuesday, March 21, visit Masonry Cafe in Yelm from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and a portion of proceeds will be donated to Yelm Dollars for Scholars. Masonry Cafe is located at 105 E. Yelm Ave.

Taste of the Prairie: Pizzeria La Gitana

On Wednesday, March 29, visit Pizzeria La Gitana from 11:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to Yelm Dollars for Scholars. Pizzeria La Gitana is located at 309 E. Yelm Ave.

Friday, April 14

Family Game Night

The Yelm Parks and Recreation department will host a family game night from 7 to 10 p.m. on Friday, April 14 at the Yelm Community Center at 301 Second St. SE. The event will feature board games, interactive games and yard-style games. People are also encouraged to bring their own games as long as they are appropriate. The event is free to attend. Dinner will be available for purchase from a food vendor onsite. Kids under 16 need to have a guardian present.
